Jakarta Governor to Crack Down on Padel Players Parking Illegally in Residential Areas

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has received complaints regarding padel players parking indiscriminately in residential areas and has pledged to take enforcement action.

“Parking — if you’ll pardon me saying so — padel players are generally people with the means to drive their own cars. And they often park in residential areas because there is no parking available, so they park wherever they please. It is very disruptive to residents,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

He confirmed that parking has become one of three main complaints from the public, alongside noise and excessively late operating hours. According to Pramono, many padel courts in residential areas lack adequate parking facilities.

As a result, players’ vehicles clog local streets and obstruct residents’ access.

“So we will also be cracking down on that,” he stressed.

In addition to parking enforcement, the Jakarta Provincial Government is limiting the operating hours of padel courts in residential areas to a maximum of 8pm Western Indonesian Time. Court operators are also required to install sound-dampening systems to minimise noise from ball impacts and players’ shouts.

Pramono noted that there are currently 397 padel courts in Jakarta. The provincial government is reviewing permit compliance, including Building Approval Certificates (PBG). Courts without proper permits face operational suspension or demolition.

Going forward, the construction of new padel courts will no longer be permitted in residential zones and may only be built in commercial areas with technical approval from the Youth and Sports Agency.

“It has been decided — new permits for the construction of padel courts will not be allowed in residential zones. All new facilities must be in commercial zones,” he added.
