Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed he met with Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi at Jakarta City Hall to discuss preparations for the 2026 Lebaran homecoming exodus. The meeting also addressed the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy to be implemented ahead of Idul Fitri.

Pramono said the central government had issued a WFA policy running from 13 to 27 or 28 March 2026. He noted the policy needed to be synchronised with mudik arrangements to prevent simultaneous surges in traffic congestion.

“I happened to meet with the Ministry of Transport yesterday. We welcome the work-from-anywhere plan running from the 13th to the 27th or 28th. This means the range is quite long,” Pramono told reporters at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday (19 February 2026).

He explained that the DKI Jakarta provincial government would schedule the collective homecoming departures so they do not all take place at the same time. The measure is intended to avoid the severe gridlock experienced during previous mudik periods.

“We are arranging it so that the collective departures do not coincide. That way, we avoid extraordinary congestion,” he said.

Pramono added that the provincial government is also preparing a collective mudik programme with a quota of tens of thousands of participants. Departure schedules will be staggered, beginning from mid-March in line with the WFA period.

“DKI Jakarta will provide a collective mudik service of approximately 26,661 buses. It turns out that this time, enthusiasm for collective mudik organised by the private sector as well as ministries and agencies is quite high,” he revealed.

In addition, coordination is being carried out with the police and relevant agencies to anticipate shifts in traffic congestion patterns during Ramadan, including during the hours approaching the breaking of the fast.
