Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) and the private entity Naiju are mentoring 30 students who receive the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) to prepare them for entry into state universities (PTN).

“Alhamdulillah, today I can attend the Naiju Intensive programme. This is a continuation of the KJP try-out programme that we have carried out together. We facilitate our KJP students with free try-outs, and the best ones we continue to the intensive stage,” said the Mayor of Jakarta East, Munjirin, during the UTBK intensive programme in Pulogadung, Jakarta East, on Tuesday.

Munjirin stated that his administration continues to promote increased access to higher education for underprivileged students. Together with Naiju, they have launched the “Naiju Intensive” programme.

This programme is a follow-up to the KJP try-out activities that have previously been held five times. The programme targets Year 12 students in public high schools and is provided free of charge.

From the results of those try-outs, 15 students have successfully received invitations through the invitation pathway to state universities.

Meanwhile, the intensive programme, initially designed for 20 students, has been increased to 30 participants following high enthusiasm from schools and parents.

“Initially the quota was 20, but due to many requests from schools and parents, it has finally been increased to 30 students. The hope is that both those who are on the invitation pathway and those participating in this intensive programme can all pass to PTN,” Munjirin explained.

Munjirin hopes that this programme can continue and even become an official policy of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in the future.

“Hopefully this programme can continue every year, even becoming a policy at the provincial level,” he said.

Meanwhile, the mentor of the Foundation for Intelligent and Socially Just Indonesia, Taufik Rendusara, emphasised that success in entering state universities is not solely determined by intelligence, but also by the right mentoring process.

“Entering favourite PTNs is not just about being smart, but how that ability is honed, nurtured, and cared for. The average score needed is around 700,” he said.

Then, the idea emerged to help students from low-income families have equal opportunities in pursuing higher education.

“This started from the Mayor’s initiative after going down to the community. Education is the door to overcoming poverty, so we are running this programme together,” said Taufik.

All funding for this intensive programme is borne by Naiju, from learning activities, meals, to participant transportation.

Even assistance will be provided in the university registration process for students who are accepted.

“We prepare everything, from food, drinks, transportation, to university registration fees for those accepted. This is 100 percent free,” he said.

The learning activities in this intensive programme run from 08:00 WIB to 15:00 WIB, but have been extended to 18:00 WIB at the request of participants who want more learning time.

With this programme, the Jakarta East City Government is optimistic that more students from low-income families will be able to break into state universities, while opening opportunities to improve their standard of living in the future.
