Jakarta Central City Government Nets Informal Workers and Street Vendors During Crackdown
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Central City Government has netted 15 Social Welfare Service Beneficiaries (PPKS), such as “pak ogah” informal parking attendants and street vendors, during an enforcement operation in Sawah Besar Subdistrict. “Sawah Besar is renowned for its pak ogah and slum settlements, so today we, together with the three pillars, are conducting outreach to PPKS,” said the Head of Civil Service Police Unit for Sawah Besar Subdistrict in Central Jakarta, Darwis Silitonga, in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, in this enforcement, his side successfully secured 15 PPKS at six different locations, including Jalan Pangeran Jayakarta, Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jalan Mangga Dua Raya, Jalan Industri, and Jalan Mangga Besar Raya. “We secured 15 PPKS, including two street vendors, nine parking attendants or pak ogah, and four buskers,” he stated. Darwis said the enforcement is a step to reduce vulnerable spots in Sawah Besar. He stated that the presence of these parking attendants or pak ogah often causes traffic congestion, and they exploit that congestion. These pak ogah direct traffic, forcing drivers to give money because they ask, although sometimes not forcibly. “Their presence is indeed very disruptive. Complaints have come in through CRM and Jaki, and now we are carrying out this enforcement,” he said. Darwis added that all 15 PPKS, one of whom is a woman, have been immediately sent to the Kedoya social home. There, the PPKS will undergo guidance until they acquire skills.
