JAKARTA – Political parties now have the opportunity to use their names on public transport stops in Jakarta.

The Chairman of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Nova Harivan Paloh, stated that this is permitted as long as the stipulated requirements are met.

“Go ahead, as long as you pay according to the rules,” said Nova when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

He explained that the stop naming scheme has long been implemented, particularly for TransJakarta services.

The contract value for naming rights varies depending on the stop’s location.

For strategic areas like Sudirman and Bundaran HI, the cost can reach billions of rupiah.

In response to public concerns that using party names could serve as a campaign tool, Nova assessed that it poses no issue as long as it follows the same rules as other commercial advertisements.

“Like billboards, anyone can do it as long as they pay. The important thing is it’s not free,” he said.

Nevertheless, he reminded that stop naming should still consider the city’s aesthetics and not damage the appearance of public spaces.

Currently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is seeking various ways to increase regional own-source revenue (PAD).

The stop naming rights programme is one effort to add to local income without directly burdening the public.
