Several areas in Jakarta were reported to be flooded since Monday (4/5/2026). According to data from the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) on Tuesday (5/5/2026) at 07.00 WIB, the flood-affected areas reached 115 neighbourhood units (RT). Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung acknowledged the flooding incident in his region since Monday afternoon. According to him, the flooding in Jakarta was caused by several factors, one of which is the high rainfall in Jakarta and its surroundings. “Why is this flooding happening? The first reason is that the rainfall is indeed high,” he said in East Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon. Not only that, the flooding in Jakarta was also caused by rubbish blockages. As a result, the impeded water flow caused flooding in several areas. Therefore, he reminded the public to maintain cleanliness, including not littering indiscriminately. After all, that could also cause flooding in Jakarta. “So, on this occasion, I really hope that when there is no rain for two weeks, people don’t let rubbish end up blocking several places. And that is what causes, even though the rainfall is slightly below 200, flooding to occur,” Pramono stated. He revealed that in handling the flooding, his side had activated all pumps for suction. Therefore, he claimed that the flooding could be addressed quickly. “That’s why when it rains from 5 to 8 a.m., relatively within 3-4 hours afterwards, the flooding has already started to recede,” he said. He added that the Jakarta Provincial Government is also carrying out dredging efforts on several rivers to increase their capacity. Some rivers currently undergoing dredging are the Krukut River, Ciliwung River, and Pesanggrahan River. Based on data from the Jakarta Provincial BPBD as of Tuesday at 13.00 WIB, there are still 23 RT areas affected by flooding with heights reaching 95 cm. In addition, there are still two road sections that are also inundated by flooding.
