JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Direktorat Jenderal Perhubungan Udara) of the Ministry of Transportation, together with AirNav Indonesia, received a working visit from Commission V of the DPR RI at AirNav Indonesia’s headquarters in Tangerang on Friday, 22 May 2026. The visit was to review the operational readiness of the national air navigation system and to evaluate the implementation of the modernization of the Air Traffic Management Automation System (ATMAS) at the New Jakarta Air Traffic Services Centre (JATSC). Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the DPR RI, Ridwan Bae, led the visit. The Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F Laisa, said the modernization of the national air navigation system is a strategic step to strengthen service capacity, and to improve aviation safety, operational efficiency, and resilience in the management of national air traffic. He explained that the ATMAS modernization in the Jakarta region is targeted to operate fully by June 2026. A similar system had previously been implemented in Medan, Pontianak and Balikpapan as part of the phased development of the national air navigation system. “All implementation stages are being carried out carefully with comprehensive risk mitigation and contingency plans to ensure safe and reliable air navigation services,” Lukman said in an official statement on Friday, 22 May 2026. Operational flights continue to run safely through the optimization of a terrestrial-based backup navigation system. The system includes the Instrument Landing System (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), and VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR). Operational support also comes from radar vectoring by Air Traffic Controllers (ATC).
