Jailed banker sues woman for defamation
JAKARTA (JP): Former banker Dicky Iskandar Di Nata, who is serving an eight-year jail term for bank fraud, has filed a lawsuit against a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her.
"We filed the lawsuit with the City Police today, accusing the woman of defamation," Dicky's lawyer, Henry Yosodiningrat, said yesterday.
The lawyer said he has strong evidence and eyewitnesses to testify that the woman fabricated the story for the police and the press.
"I challenge her to meet my client in court to prove what she claims," Henry told The Jakarta Post.
On Jan. 29, the woman, Titi Wulandari Prihatin, 27, filed a lawsuit against Dicky saying that the former vice president of Bank Duta had sexually assaulted her three times.
Titi's lawyer, Ruhut Sitompul, said that the first incident took place at the Equatorial hotel in Central Jakarta late in the evening of Nov. 13. Dicky allegedly gave the married woman an unidentified pill to knock her out.
"She was saved by the telephone," Ruhut said. "She kicked Dicky and immediately put on her clothes as she ran out of the hotel room."
Dicky rushed at her, begging forgiveness and promising never to do it again, Ruhut said.
About a month later Dicky visited her at her office, PT Mesan Investama Utama, a securities company in the Setiabudhi Building I on Jl. Rasuna Said, the lawyer said.
Dicky tried to hug and kiss her, Ruhut said.
On Jan. 11, Dicky met Titi at the same office and again attempted to kiss her.
Titi had wanted to report the case to the police, but waited until her husband, Bambang Soesatyo, arrived home, said Ruhut.
Bambang, the editor-in-chief of Info Business magazine, came home two weeks later, the lawyer said.
"That's why she filed the lawsuit a little bit late, that's on Jan. 29," Ruhut said.
The lawyer questioned why the police permitted Dicky to violate his special privilege of leaving the Cipinang Penitentiary between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. everyday.
"My client told me that most of the incidents took place after 6 p.m.," Ruhut charged.
Dicky's lawyer, Henry, replied yesterday with: "That's a lie."
Henry claimed he has investigated the allegations and has found no evidence that Dicky stayed out past his curfew.
Dicky was sentenced by the Central Jakarta District Court in 1991 for abusing his position as vice president of Bank Duta from 1988 to August 1990 in foreign exchange margin trading with Citibank in Jakarta, the National Bank of Kuwait and several banks in Singapore.
The foreign exchange trading cost Bank Duta Rp 811 billion.
Henry said that because of the recent media stories about Dicky, the warden has forbidden his client to leave the penitentiary.
Titi, who earlier claimed to be a minor shareholder in PT Mesan Investama Utama, was fired from the securities company on Tuesday. (bsr)
