Jaecoo J5 EV Sells Strongly; J5 SHS Hybrid Ready to Enter Indonesia?
JAKARTA — Amid surging pre-orders for the Jaecoo J5 EV, which have exceeded 14,000 units, Jaecoo Indonesia is beginning to consider expanding its vehicle variants to include a hybrid model, namely the J5 SHS (Super Hybrid System).
Interest in the pure electric version remains strong. However, the company is conducting internal assessments to evaluate the market potential for the hybrid variant (J5 SHS) in Indonesia.
“At present, we remain focused on EV. Given current trends, demand for the EV version of J5 remains high,” said Ilham Pratama whilst inaugurating the latest dealership in West Jakarta on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
He added that despite solid demand for the J5 EV, the opportunity to introduce a hybrid version remains open, given that Jaecoo already possesses the technology globally.
“If there is demand, we already have the product globally. So it is simply a matter of tailoring it for the Indonesian market,” he stated.
By global specifications, the J5 SHS is presented as an SUV with a super hybrid system, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. Total power reaches 165kW (equivalent to 221 horsepower) with torque of 295 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
The vehicle has compact yet spacious dimensions, measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and a 2,620 mm wheelbase, accommodating five passengers.
Fuel consumption is efficient, at approximately 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres (18.8 km per litre).
Although global specifications are ready, Ilham emphasised that the decision to bring the J5 Hybrid to Indonesia is not certain to occur this year.
“We are currently developing and reassessing market requirements for the hybrid version. This means we will prepare it, and since we already have the product globally, we simply await further developments,” he stated.
This approach demonstrates that Jaecoo remains adaptive to market demand, whilst maintaining their primary focus on pure electric vehicles.
