Jabodetabek Traffic Congestion Costs Rp 100 Trillion, SIG Offers Quick-Drying Concrete
JAKARTA - Economic losses due to traffic congestion in the Jabodetabek area reach Rp 100 trillion per year. Data from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the Jabodetabek Urban Transportation Policy Integration (JUTPI) phase II in 2019 also report that congestion has a significant impact on quality of life. This is because the transportation sector is also the largest contributor to air pollution. In addition to high vehicle density and mobility, one of the causes of congestion is road repairs. Conventional road repairs can take 1 to 2 weeks. Not only time and economic losses, but pollution due to road closures also contributes to air pollution. In response to this situation, PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has introduced a construction innovation through the quick-drying concrete solution, SpeedCrete. With a technology-based and efficiency approach, SpeedCrete is part of SIG’s strategy in driving the transformation of the construction industry through value-added derivative solutions. SpeedCrete uses rapid setting technology that allows concrete to achieve initial strength and be ready for use within a few hours after application. Thus, road repair work can be carried out more quickly without significantly disrupting community activities. The available setting time flexibility, ranging from 3 to 12 hours, allows this solution to be adapted to project needs and traffic density levels in various areas. With these advantages, SpeedCrete provides significant time efficiency while minimising the potential for economic losses due to congestion. “SpeedCrete not only offers speed in execution but also provides added value in terms of cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. This aligns with SIG’s commitment to continue delivering products and services that can enhance the competitiveness of the national construction sector,” said Vita in an official statement on Tuesday (12/5/2026). She added that the company with the stock code SMGR also offers integrated services in the implementation of SpeedCrete, which includes traffic management, dismantling of old pavements, pouring, and reopening roads in a short time. Work that is generally carried out at night allows roads to be used again in the morning, thus minimising the impact on road users. “This approach strengthens SIG’s position as a strategic partner in supporting the acceleration of infrastructure development and maintenance,” she stated. For information, SpeedCrete has been applied to various strategic projects in Indonesia, including repairs to the TransJakarta Bus route, the Patung Pemuda roundabout area, the Koja Container Terminal, and several toll road sections such as the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar-Permata Panggang-Kayu Agung Toll Road, Jakarta-Merak Toll Road, Jabodetabek Toll Road, Pejagan-Pemalang Toll Road, Surabaya-Mojokerto Toll Road, and Surabaya-Gempol Toll Road.
