JAKARTA — The IWIP Charity Foundation, part of Yongqing Group under Tsingshan Industrial Holdings, has channelled a donation in the form of a grid-forming energy storage system (GFM ESS) with an 8 MWh capacity to two remote islands in Indonesia. This aims to build a stable and reliable electricity system, while supporting equitable economic development based on sustainable energy.

PT Dogo Teknologi Energi (DoGo) provides the aforementioned GFM ESS solution. With leading technology and extensive experience in grid-forming type energy storage systems (ESS), DoGo delivers a complete solution, including an 8 MWh energy storage system, power conversion system (PCS), as well as communication and management systems.

DoGo also handles the design process, network simulation, and consulting services to ensure the system can independently form a stable electricity grid, while addressing operational challenges in island regions not connected to the main electricity grid (off-grid).

Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia’s electrification ratio has reached more than 99 percent in 2025. However, challenges remain in providing reliable electricity supply to remote and island areas.

Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands, with thousands of villages still relying on limited electricity systems or lacking 24-hour access to electricity. This condition directly impacts the economic activities of communities that are not yet optimal.

This donation serves as an example of the private sector’s contribution to supporting the national clean energy transition agenda while promoting economic inclusion. In August 2025, the Indonesian government set ambitious targets to accelerate the national clean energy transition.

The programme includes building 100 GW of solar power plants (PLTS) and 320 GWh of battery storage capacity in 80,000 villages, as well as centralised PLTS to accelerate the national energy infrastructure transformation.

According to a representative from PT Dogo Teknologi Energi, Pamela Pan, “Grid-connected energy storage solutions offer an adequate development pathway with scalable dimensions for remote islands, mining areas, and ‘energy islands’, while improving overall electricity access and providing real solutions to support the achievement of new national energy targets.”

The IWIP Charity Foundation states that this donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to global energy sustainability. The implementation of GFM ESS on remote islands is expected to enhance community welfare, strengthen local economic activities, and bridge energy access disparities between regions.

This effort is also seen as aligned with ESG principles, particularly in promoting inclusive economic growth through more equitable and sustainable energy access.
