ITB and Boeing Launch University Innovation Leadership Programme
The program, launched at ITB’s Ganesha Campus in Bandung on Monday, is designed to build an innovation ecosystem that connects students, young alumni, and startups with the global aerospace industry.
The Director General of Research and Development at the Ministry of Education and Technology, M. Fauzan Adziman, described this collaboration as an ideal model that directly connects industry needs with higher education.
This approach allows for the development of more relevant research and improves graduates’ readiness for the workforce.
“The aerospace sector is at the root of many technological innovations. Collaborations like this not only strengthen research but also open up opportunities for the birth of startups and new industrial ecosystems with broad impact,” he said.
He added that the BUILD program will also encourage the integration of activities such as internships, industry-based research, and the development of superior materials, including the potential utilization of national resources such as nickel for advanced technology.
ITB Rector Tatacipta Dirgantara stated that the BUILD program embodies the synergy between universities and global industry in building a sustainable innovation ecosystem.
Through this program, participants will receive direct mentoring from Boeing to develop their ideas and innovations until they are ready for implementation.
“Until now, many aspiring technology entrepreneurs have not been directly connected to large industries. Through BUILD, Boeing acts as an anchor, providing mentors and building an ecosystem, thus increasing the chances of innovation success downstream,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving the growth of high-value-added industries in Indonesia, particularly in the aerospace sector, which encompasses a broad spectrum of technologies, from electronic systems and materials to sustainable fuels and passenger comfort.
Boeing Indonesia Managing Director Indra Duivenvoorde explained that BUILD is designed as an experiential learning program that connects participants with Boeing experts, industry mentors, and the ITB innovation ecosystem.
The program, which will run until September 2026, includes workshops, mentoring sessions, bootcamps, and idea incubation.
“This program focuses on developing solutions in the aerospace and defense sectors, including sustainable technologies and social impact. Beyond just technical skills, BUILD aims to build leadership, confidence, and cross-sector collaboration capabilities,” he said.
As part of the program, participants will develop ideas based on real industry needs, which will then be tested and refined.
The top three teams will receive a total of US$12,500 in funding and six months of development support at ITB.
The launch of BUILD Indonesia 2026 is said to affirm a shared commitment to developing the next generation of innovators and strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global aerospace ecosystem.
This collaboration is expected to extend beyond the campus level and also foster innovations and startups capable of making a real impact on society and the national industry.
