IT Expert in Nadiem's Trial Deems Rp 6 Million Chromebook Price Overpriced
An IT expert from Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya University (Ubhara Jaya), Mujiono Sadikin, has deemed the Rp 6 million price for Chromebook laptops as too expensive. Mujiono provided this assessment when asked for his opinion during the continuation of the trial in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops for the defendant Nadiem and others. “With permission, I cannot access or do not need to access or do not know the actual purchase price, but assuming the price is, for example, Rp 6 million, it is already excessive,” Mujiono stated during the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (6/4/2026). When asked for his opinion, Mujiono admitted he did not have or seek independent data, but relied on data provided by the investigators. “If looking at what is presented in the presentation file, the base selling price quoted from e-commerce in the presentation slide is Rp 3,299,000 per unit,” Mujiono said. Meanwhile, in 2025-2026, Chromebook prices varied according to type and specifications. “If I look at current sites, meaning the position in 2025-2026, the prices were between Rp 3 million and Rp 4 million, with the note of an 11-inch display, 32 GB storage, and processor type N4000 or N4020,” he added. “So, from e-commerce sites, those with a 12-inch display are Rp 1,850,000, and those with 32 GB storage are Rp 1,750,000,” Mujiono continued. In this case, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, along with three other defendants, is said to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion. Nadiem is accused of enriching himself by Rp 809 billion. This figure is said to stem from Google’s investment in Gojek or PT AKAB. Nadiem is alleged to have abused his authority, making Google the sole controller of IT procurement, including laptops, in Indonesia’s technology ecosystem. This was done by directing the procurement study towards a single product, namely Chrome-based devices, which are Google’s products. Nadiem carried out these actions with three other defendants: former Technology Consultant in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology environment, Ibrahim Arief; Director of SMP in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2020–2021 as well as Budget User Representative (KPA), Mulyatsyah; and Director of SD in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2020–2021 as well as KPA, Sri Wahyuningsih. For their actions, Nadiem and the other defendants are threatened with Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
