Israeli Attack Kills Three TNI Soldiers, DPR Member Urges UN Emergency Session
JAKARTA - A member of the DPR Commission I, Oleh Soleh, is pushing for an emergency session at the United Nations (UN) following Israel’s attack on Lebanon. The Israeli attack is known to have also killed three TNI soldiers who were part of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL). “The Indonesian government must immediately urge the convening of an emergency UN Security Council session to discuss this violation and ensure accountability,” Soleh told reporters on Wednesday (1 April 2026). In addition, he is calling for an evaluation to consider withdrawing TNI soldiers from Lebanon. This withdrawal is considered important to ensure the safety of Indonesian soldiers in the conflict area. “The safety of the soldiers is the top priority. The government must immediately conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the peacekeeping deployment in that area,” said Soleh. This incident adds to the list of fallen TNI soldiers, bringing the total to three members. “In the incident, two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two others suffered serious injuries. The injured soldiers are currently receiving intensive medical treatment at a health facility in Beirut,” said the Head of Information of the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, in a press release on Tuesday (31 March 2026). Rico explained that the victims were carrying out escort duties to support UNIFIL operational activities at the time. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Defence and TNI, continues to coordinate with UNIFIL headquarters to ensure the safety of all personnel and the best handling for the victims. “Evacuation and medical handling measures have also been carried out quickly in accordance with UN operational procedures,” Rico clarified.
