Israel Mobilises 100,000 Reserve Troops Amid Aggression Towards Iran
The Israeli military has stated it will call up approximately 100,000 reserve troops as part of its campaign against long-standing adversary Iran.
“(The Israeli military) is preparing to call up around 100,000 reserve troops and increase readiness levels across various fronts as part of Operation ‘Roaring Lion’,” the military statement read, referring to the name given to the strike—launched in cooperation with the United States—against Iran.
According to The Times of Israel newspaper, at least 50,000 reserve troops are already deployed at present.
Over the past 24 hours, Israeli operations in Gaza have killed at least one person and wounded seven others, according to the Health Ministry. Since the ceasefire announced by the United States took effect in October, at least 629 Palestinian civilians have been killed. More than 70,000 people have died since Israel’s military operations in Gaza commenced in October 2023.
In related developments, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated agreement with the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, whilst warning of the risks of conflict escalation in the Middle East.
In response to the escalating situation, Iranian forces have shot down 10 advanced drones, with a total of 22 intercepted. The United States confirmed 3 military personnel killed and 5 wounded from operations against Iran, though the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier remains secure despite missile launches.
Drone attacks attributed to Iran have also triggered fires at Al Salam Abu Dhabi airbase, which houses French forces, though the United Arab Emirates confirmed no casualties were reported.
