Israel Attacks Iranian Oil Depot, Large Fire Engulfs Tehran
The United States and Israel have again launched strikes against various parts of Iran. This time the attack targeted an oil storage depot and refining facility in Tehran. According to Al Jazeera and AFP, a large fire was reported in Tehran after the strike, with flames seen on the northern outskirts of the Iranian capital. The Israeli military claims responsibility for the attack, stating that Israel targeted oil facilities believed to be affiliated with Iran’s armed forces. State media IRNA reported the attack, describing it as the first reported strike on Iran’s oil infrastructure. ‘We report that an oil depot in southern Tehran was targeted by the United States and the Zionist regime,’ IRNA said. The depot lies near a major refinery; ILNA, however, reported that the refinery facility did not suffer damage from the military strike. The attack also hit another oil depot in northwestern Tehran, with AFP journalists seeing flames and smoke rising at the site. Earlier on February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran that killed the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and sparked conflict in the Middle East. Iran then retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and U.S. interests across the region.
