Islamic University of Indonesia Urges Indonesian Government to Condemn Israel-US Attacks on Iran
Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) has called on the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to immediately condemn the military attacks by Israel and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a position statement delivered by Rector Fathul Wahid on behalf of the university community, it states that the attacks violate the principle of state sovereignty under international law. The attacks run counter to the constitutional mandate that imperialism worldwide must be abolished, and they potentially widen conflicts that disrupt global geopolitical stability and worsen the suffering of civilians, particularly women and children. Therefore, according to UII, the Indonesian government should demonstrate foreign policy consistency that respects the sovereignty of other nations, rejects all forms of aggression, and promotes peaceful settlement through diplomacy and multilateral mechanisms. Reflecting on the latest developments in national life and state practice, “we, the students and staff of the Islamic University of Indonesia, regret the Indonesian Government’s stance for not demonstrating sufficient resolve in addressing the military attacks by Israel and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Fathul Wahid. The stance reflects weakness in the implementation of the principle of an independent and active foreign policy. At the same time, “we express deep concern about various policies and other political steps that could undermine the sovereignty of the state in international economic cooperation; undermining the constitutional commitment to rejecting all forms of colonisation.”
