Is the One-Way System Still in Effect on Lebaran Day?
KARAWANG, KOMPAS.com – Traffic engineering in the form of contraflow and one-way systems remains a key strategy for managing vehicle flows during the Lebaran period, including on the day itself up to H+1. This scheme is implemented to ease congestion, particularly on the Trans-Java Toll Road, which serves as the main route for public mobility. This situation stems from the high volume of vehicles moving from west to east, such as from Jakarta and its surroundings to cities in Central Java or East Java. This traffic flow has the potential to cause jams if all vehicles must share lanes with opposing traffic. Vice President of Corporate Secretary & Legal at PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Ria Marlinda Paalo, stated that the one-way traffic engineering is still being applied as of now. “The one-way is still in effect now,” said Ria Marlinda Paalo to Kompas.com on Friday (20/3/2026). However, the implementation of one-way is not permanent and depends heavily on field conditions. If vehicle volumes start to decrease, this traffic engineering could be halted to allow normal two-way traffic. “We are currently awaiting police discretion; in terms of traffic volume, the homecoming flow has already shown stabilising figures,” she said. With this flexible scheme, homebound travellers are urged to continue monitoring the latest information on traffic engineering, especially for those planning trips on Lebaran day or H+1. For information, the national one-way applies from KM 70 at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road to KM 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate on the Batang-Semarang Toll Road.
