JAKARTA - The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, has responded to circulating rumours claiming that non-ASN teachers will be banned from teaching in public schools starting in 2027.

Mu’ti stated that Ministerial Circular (SE) Number 7 of 2026 is a government decision to maintain the continuity of learning across Indonesia, providing certainty of status and welfare for teachers.

“Through more planned governance improvements, future teacher needs can be met in the right quantity and targeting the right areas. This is an important step to create a stable education ecosystem to enhance the quality of national education in the future,” Mu’ti said in a press statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Thus, non-ASN teachers will have the opportunity to follow the applicable selection process.

“For those who pass the selection, their status will transform into Civil Servants (ASN), thereby providing a clearer and more sustainable career path,” Mu’ti explained.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education understands the concerns felt by non-ASN teachers regarding the continuity of their assignments in educational units following the issuance of SE Mendikdasmen Number 7 of 2026.

“The government ensures that every policy taken still prioritises the best interests of teachers and education personnel, and ensures the presence of quality education services in every educational unit,” said Nunuk.

She explained that the government is actually preparing a clear scheme to guarantee welfare and ensure working periods for non-ASN teachers.

Therefore, for non-ASN teachers who already have educator certificates and meet the workload requirements, they will receive professional allowances in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

“Meanwhile, for teachers who do not yet have educator certificates, they will still receive incentives from the government, as a form of appreciation for their contributions to the world of education,” she clarified.
