Irresponsible builders
From Media Indonesia
Since Jakarta's huge floods on Feb. 10, the inhabitants of the
Greenville housing complex in West Jakarta are stressed out
everytime it rains. A 15-minute downpour already results in water
entering our houses.
I have tried to search for the cause. I started at Citraland
and went north along Jl. Latumeten. It seems the construction
team of the Pluit-Grogol flyover has been dumping earth into the
Grogol river, thus reducing capacities of the area's rivers
including the Sekretaris and Grogol rivers. The obstruction in
the northbound rivers prevents rain water and river water from
flowing into the sea. The water just stays in the surrounding
areas like Jl. Daan Mogot.
I would herewith request the authorities to call the project
contractor to task and instruct him to dredge the Grogol river.
With Grogol river deep enough, West Jakarta will probably be
spared from more floods.
