IRNA: Iran Fully Restores International Internet Connectivity
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran has fully restored international internet connectivity across its telecommunications network, according to the government-run Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday (26 May). According to the report, fixed broadband users, including FTTH (fibre to the home), VDSL, and ADSL services, can now access the global internet without restrictions and use international websites and online services normally. The Iranian government previously announced efforts to gradually restore international internet access. Iran restricted international internet access from 8 January when national protests over economic issues, including a sharp depreciation of the rial, escalated into clashes resulting in casualties and public property damage. Tehran blamed the United States (US) and Israel for the unrest. After a weeks-long disruption, international internet access was temporarily restored, but restrictions were reimposed on 28 February when the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran.
