Irishman netted over marijuana

JAKARTA (JP): An Irishman has been netted by police during an early morning crackdown at the JJ pub on Jl. Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta for possessing dried marijuana.

Chief detective of the Gambir Police sub-precinct First Lt. Aswin Sipayung confirmed the arrest of the Irishman, identified only as Br., on Wednesday night. Aswin said the man, an English teacher, was found possessing a few grams of dried marijuana.

Br. teaches a private English course in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

"We also netted 15 visitors who failed to show their identification cards," Aswin said yesterday.

He said the raid was conducted following tips that the pub always closed after 2 a.m., the time set by the city administration.

Crackdowns also took place at the Lisa Dangdut discotheque and Duta Karaoke in Duta Merlin Shopping Center in Central Jakarta.(jun)
