Haifa, Israel — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday (8 March 2026) announced that it struck Israel’s oil refining complex in Haifa with the Kheibar Shekan missile. According to the IRGC, cited by Al Mayadeen, the attack was a retaliation for an Israeli strike on Iran’s oil storage facilities in Tehran.

The IRGC statement was issued alongside the 27th wave of Operation Loyalty Promise 4, during which missiles and drones were launched at targets belonging to the United States and Israel. The IRGC said that, with the Kheibar Shekan missile, the Haifa refinery was successfully targeted.

As for the drone attack, the IRGC said it also successfully struck a US military target located at the Marina area near the Warner Bros building in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Iranian missiles: ranges

The Kheibar Shekan is described as one of the advanced missiles Iran currently relies on. The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence says Iran has the largest stock of ballistic missiles in the Middle East.

Iranian missiles have ranges of up to around 2,000 kilometres (km), which experts say is sufficient to deter given the distance between Iran and Israel.

Iran’s missile stock, according to CSIS, includes various long-range varieties capable of reaching Israel. These include Sejil with a range of 2,000 km; Emad, 1,700 km; Ghadr, 2,000 km; Shahab-3, 1,300 km; Khorramshahr, 2,000 km; and Hoveyzeh, 1,350 km.

An Iranian infographic published by ISNA in April 2025 listed nine missiles capable of reaching Israel. It showed Sejil with speeds exceeding 17,000 km per hour and ranges up to 2,500 km; Kheibar, 2,000 km; and Haj Qasem, 1,400 km.

The Washington-based Arms Control Association, a research body, describes Iran’s ballistic missiles including Shahab-1 with an estimated range of 300 km; Zolfaghar 700 km; Shahab-3 800–1,000 km; Emad-1, a missile still under development with a range up to 2,000 km; and Sejil with an estimated range of 1,500–2,500 km.
