Iran's Imam Khomeini International Airport Officially Resumes Operations
Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran began serving a number of international flights again on Saturday (24/4/2026). This initial step marks the recovery of aviation activities in Iran. In the initial phase, passenger flights departing from Iran’s capital are scheduled to head to several destinations, namely Muscat in Oman, Istanbul in Turkey, and Madinah in Saudi Arabia. These routes are part of the limited reopening carried out by local aviation authorities. Citing the Reuters website, the partial resumption of international flights serves as a positive signal for Iran’s air transport sector, which had previously experienced disruptions. Although not yet fully normal, this step demonstrates a gradual effort to revive global connectivity from Tehran. Previously, Mashhad Airport, which serves Iran’s second-largest city in the northeast region, had reopened earlier this week. The opening of these two major airports strengthens indications that aviation activities in the country are beginning to move towards recovery. Nevertheless, there is no further information regarding when all international flights will resume full operations. Passengers are advised to continue monitoring official information from airlines and airport authorities regarding the latest travel schedules and requirements.
