Iran's foreign minister discusses US-Israel aggression with Russian and French foreign ministers
Tehran — Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi spoke with the Russian and French foreign ministers about the latest developments in the United States and Israel’s attacks on Iran since Saturday, 28 February, last week, according to statements issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Araghchi said that Israel and the United States had targeted residential areas, schools, mosques, hospitals, as well as rescue centres and public service facilities in Iran, and had killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and many civilians, including more than 175 students. He called on all governments and the United Nations to firmly condemn the actions of ‘criminal’ Israel and the United States, as conveyed by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed condolences at the deaths of Khamenei, senior military commanders, and civilians, while emphasising that attacks on Iran violate the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter and will entail grave consequences for stability and security in the region as well as worldwide. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said his country believes that the US and Israel’s attack on Iran breaches international law, and expressed the hope that peace in the region can be restored as soon as possible. On Saturday morning local time, Israel and the United States launched a joint strike on Tehran and several other cities in Iran. Iran responded with several waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US bases in the Middle East.
