Iran's Demands to the US: End the War and Release Frozen Assets
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that it is calling for an end to the war across the Middle East region, in response to the latest proposal from the United States (US). Tehran is also demanding the release of assets frozen overseas.
“We are not demanding any concessions. The only thing we are demanding is Iran’s legitimate rights,” said Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press conference in Tehran, as reported by AFP on Monday (11/5/2026).
He stated that Iran’s demands include “ending the war in the region”, halting the US naval blockade, and “releasing the assets belonging to the Iranian people, which have been unfairly trapped in foreign banks for years”.
Iranian local media outlet Press TV reported that Tehran’s counter-proposal demands full compensation for war damages from the US and emphasises the recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the lifting of all sanctions and the release of frozen assets overseas.
Press TV noted that Tehran’s counter-proposal was submitted through Pakistani mediators and forwarded to the US on Sunday (10/5) local time. According to Press TV, Iran’s counter-proposal emphasises the “fundamental rights of the Iranian nation”.
Baghaei’s statement came after US President Donald Trump, on Sunday (10/5), revealed that he had reviewed Iran’s latest response and expressed rejection of Tehran’s counter-proposal. Trump described Iran’s proposal as “completely unacceptable”.
“I just read the response from what is called the ‘Representative’ of Iran. I don’t like it, completely unacceptable!” Trump said via his Truth Social account, as reported by AFP.
Separately, a report from Tasnim News Agency, cited by TRT World, stated that Trump’s rejection is considered irrelevant by Iran, with Tehran’s semi-official news agency describing the move as “completely unimportant”.
Iran submitted its counter-proposal after rejecting the US-proposed peace plan, on the grounds that the peace plan required compliance with the “excessive demands” put forward by Trump.
“No one in Iran writes a proposal to please Trump. The negotiation team only writes a proposal for the rights of the Iranian nation,” said a source familiar with the content of Iran’s counter-proposal when speaking to Tasnim News Agency.
The source added: “If Trump is not happy with it, then that’s actually better.”
“Trump doesn’t like reality at all; that’s why he keeps losing to Iran,” the source said.
