Iranian President: Hormuz Strait Blockade and US Threats Hinder Negotiations
World watches empty rhetoric full of hypocrisy and contradictions between claims and actions,
Moscow (ANTARA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that violations of commitments, blockade actions in the Strait of Hormuz, and threats from the United States (US) are the main obstacles in the negotiation process.
“Iran has always welcomed and continues to open itself to dialogue and agreements. However, bad faith, encirclement, and threats are the primary barriers to sincere negotiations. The world is witnessing empty rhetoric full of hypocrisy as well as contradictions between claims and actions,” Pezeshkian wrote on social media platform X on Wednesday (22/4).
Previously, on 28 February, the US and Israel launched joint attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
That escalation of conflict nearly halted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route for oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets, thereby contributing to a rise in fuel prices.
Then, on 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire. However, subsequent negotiations in Islamabad ended without results.
Although there has been no official announcement regarding the resumption of hostilities, the US has begun imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
