Iranian President Apologises, Vows Not to Attack Neighbours, but on Conditions
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has apologised to neighbouring countries amid escalating conflict and military strikes by the United States and Israel. The fighting, which has begun to spill over into the broader Middle East region, is now entering its second week.
Pezeshkian’s apology was delivered in a speech broadcast on Government-controlled television, AFP reported on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
Not only did he apologise, he also asserted that Iran would not carry out attacks on other countries or neighbouring states, but with a primary condition he stressed in the speech.
‘I apologise to the neighbouring countries that have been attacked by Iran,’ Pezeshkian said.
He said he would not target neighbouring countries unless attacks came from those countries. He added Iran would not surrender to the US and Israel.
‘The enemies must bring about their wishes so that the Iranian people surrender to their graves,’ Pezeshkian declared.
Earlier reports noted that around 80 Israeli Air Force jets attacked Iranian military bases and missile facilities in Tehran on Saturday, local time.
In another AFP report on Saturday, the Arab League would hold an emergency meeting on Sunday, 8 March 2026 to discuss the series of attacks now spreading to the Gulf region.
