Iranian Foreign Ministry: No plans for meeting with US in Islamabad
Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, stated that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Islamabad to meet with senior Pakistani officials, and there are no plans for a direct meeting with the United States side.
The meeting is taking place amid Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the US.
On the social media platform X on Saturday, Baqaei said the meeting would occur alongside Pakistan’s ongoing mediation and goodwill services to help end the US aggression war and restore stability in the region.
“There are no meetings planned between Iran and the US. Iran’s views will be conveyed to Pakistan,” Baqaei said.
“I can confirm that special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will go to Pakistan again tomorrow morning to engage in direct talks, mediated by the Pakistani side, which has been an outstanding mediator throughout this process, with representatives from the Iranian delegation,” Leavitt told Fox News.
He added that US Vice President J.D. Vance would remain in the US, although he still wishes to be involved in the entire process.
The negotiations are occurring after Pakistan mediated a two-week ceasefire since 8 April, which was then extended indefinitely by Trump without a specified time limit.
This development comes amid tensions since the outbreak of the US-Israel war against Iran on 28 February, with efforts focused on achieving a broader agreement to end the conflict.
