Iranian Foreign Minister: Note this—the US will greatly regret sinking Iran’s frigate Dena
Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the United States had “committed cruelty at sea” by sinking Iran’s naval frigate Dena in the Indian Ocean. He vowed the move would be deeply regretted by the US.
“The US has committed cruelty at sea, 2,000 miles (3,219 km) from Iran’s shores,” Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “Frigate Dena, a guest ship of the Indian Navy carrying nearly 130 sailors, was attacked in international waters without warning.” “Remember my words: the US will greatly regret the precedent it has set with this.”
The Iranian sailor who survived the attack by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean is recovering in a hospital in the port city of Galle, Sri Lanka, authorities said, a day after at least 87 people were killed in the attack. Authorities at the National Hospital in Galle and naval sources said 87 bodies were brought by military rescue teams responding to an early-morning distress call from IRIS Dena on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
Search and rescue operations for around 60 people still missing aboard the vessel would continue on Thursday, authorities said. The 32 rescued sailors were being treated for minor injuries and could be discharged from hospital on Thursday. Two police officers were guarding the entrance to Ward No. 58 of the hospital while nurses walked and doctors conducted morning rounds.
