Iranian Embassy in Jakarta Responds Positively to Indonesia's Diplomatic Mediation Efforts
The Iranian Embassy in Jakarta has welcomed positively the diplomatic initiative of President Prabowo Subianto’s offer of mediation amid the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel.
Tehran has appreciated Jakarta’s step whilst requesting that Indonesia adopt a firm stance against the aggression attributed to Washington and Tel Aviv.
The response was conveyed through an official statement from the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia on Sunday, 1 March. The Iranian Embassy expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s position whilst encouraging the government to adopt a firm stance against Washington and Tel Aviv.
“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia, whilst conveying appreciation for the consistent support of the Indonesian Government and people and welcoming the readiness of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to mediate in this conflict, emphasises the importance of Indonesian officials taking a firm stance in condemning the aggression and crimes of the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel,” stated the Iranian Embassy’s official release.
In its statement, Iran also outlined the lengthy history of hostility from the United States towards Tehran. The embassy cited American intervention and aggression spanning approximately seven decades, which they said began with a coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh on 19 August 1953.
According to the embassy, following that incident, the United States imposed political and economic sanctions on Iran, supported organisations they characterised as terrorist groups including the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MKO), and allegedly participated in the killing of Iranian civilians, political officials, military personnel, and nuclear scientists.
They also accused Washington of creating terrorism and extremism to operationalise Islamophobia and Iranophobia globally.
Iran also referenced several other incidents, including the shooting down of an Iranian Airbus by the USS Vincennes warship in the Persian Gulf, the killing of an Iranian commander in 2020 in Iraq, American support for Israeli strikes in Damascus in April 2024, support for Israeli assaults on military centres in October 2024, support for attacks in June 2025, and accusations of hijacking peaceful civilian protests in January 2026.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has stated Indonesia’s readiness to facilitate dialogue should both conflicting parties agree.
“The Government of Indonesia, in this case the President of the Republic of Indonesia, has conveyed its readiness to facilitate dialogue to create restored conditions of security and stability, should both parties agree,” stated the Foreign Ministry release on Saturday, 28 February.
The Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the Indonesian President is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the escalation of tensions in the Middle East has the potential to disrupt regional stability and global peace and security.
“Indonesia deeply regrets the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which has resulted in military escalation in the Middle East region,” the Indonesian Foreign Ministry stated.
The conflict intensified after the United States and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran following the failure of Washington and Tehran to reach an agreement in indirect nuclear negotiations.
During the negotiation process, United States President Donald Trump repeatedly warned of attacks should no agreement be reached. Trump insisted that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons and sought strict restrictions on the country’s ballistic missile programme.
