Iranian Drone Strikes Fuel Facility at Dubai Airport; Two Flights from Indonesia Affected
JAKARTA — An Iranian drone reportedly struck a fuel tank in the vicinity of Dubai Airport on Monday, 16 March 2026, according to Al Jazeera.
The Acting Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection (PWNI) at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that the incident resulted in two flights from Indonesia to Dubai being disrupted.
“Regarding Indonesian nationals, there are two Emirates airline flights from Indonesia to Dubai that were affected by landing diversions,” Heni said in a statement on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
Flight EK 399 on the Denpasar–Dubai route was subsequently diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport with an estimated 300 passengers on board.
The diversion was carried out due to the drone incident, which caused Dubai Airport operations to be suspended until 10:00 local time.
Heni stated that to date, there have been no reports of Indonesian nationals being killed or requesting assistance in connection with the incident.
The fire caused by the Iranian drone was successfully extinguished by the civil defence team of the United Arab Emirates.
There were no casualties resulting from the incident.
