Iranian and Omani Foreign Ministers Meet Ahead of Third Round of Iran-US Talks
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi on Wednesday evening, ahead of the new round of indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, scheduled for Thursday in Geneva.
The meeting took place shortly after Araghchi arrived in the Swiss city, effectively marking the start of the third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday morning local time.
During the talks, Araghchi outlined Iran’s position on nuclear issues and the lifting of US sanctions, and conveyed Tehran’s views and considerations to the Omani side.
He expressed his appreciation for Oman’s role in facilitating the ongoing diplomatic process, while emphasizing that the success of the negotiations depends on the seriousness of the other parties and how they avoid contradictory actions and statements.
Albusaidi reaffirmed Oman’s readiness to continue playing a mediating role and support efforts to advance the diplomatic track. He praised Iran’s commitment to a diplomatic approach to the nuclear issue and expressed hope that the negotiations would yield satisfactory results.
This third round of negotiations takes place amid rising tensions between Iran and the US following increased US military presence in the Middle East. The first and second rounds of talks were previously held earlier this month in Muscat and Geneva.
