Iranian Ambassador Reveals Reasons for Choosing Pakistan for Peace Negotiations with the US
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, revealed the reasons why his country chose Pakistan as the location and mediator for peace negotiations with the United States (US). Ambassador Boroujerdi stated that the decision is inseparable from the active role of the Pakistani government in promoting a ceasefire in the region.
“Because we see that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has undertaken many activities and efforts for a ceasefire in the area,” said Ambassador Boroujerdi at Paramadina University, Jakarta, on Saturday (11/4/2026).
He explained that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are deemed capable of convincing both parties to sit together at the negotiating table.
“From those efforts, they also tried to convince us and our opponents to then negotiate in Pakistan,” he said.
Pakistan Ensures Attendance of Iran-US Parties
It is known that Islamabad is one of the agreed locations for peace talks amid the Iran-US and Israel conflict. In recent times, Pakistan has indeed been active in playing the role of mediator between the conflicting parties.
Several reports also indicate that Pakistan is attempting to bridge communication between the two sides and push for de-escalation of the conflict, which has widespread impacts on regional stability, including strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that representatives from the US and Iran are confirmed to attend the ceasefire negotiations held in Islamabad on Saturday (11/4) local time. However, Sharif reminded that progress in the talks will require hard work.
The Iranian delegation, led by the chairman of the country’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, as reported by AFP on Saturday (11/4), has already arrived in Islamabad. Meanwhile, the US delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance is en route to Pakistan.
“In response to my sincere invitation, the leaders of both countries will come to Islamabad. There, negotiations will be held to achieve peace,” said Sharif in his speech on Friday (10/4) local time.
In Islamabad, all routes to Hotel Serena, the negotiation site, have been blocked with tight security. Large banners and digital billboards along Islamabad’s main roads announce what is called the “Islamabad Negotiations”.
These talks are being held after the US and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire for two weeks on Tuesday (7/4) local time, which ended the fighting since late February. The discussions in Islamabad are intended to finalise that ceasefire.
