Iran-US-Israel Conflict Triggers Surge in Global Gold and Silver Prices

JAKARTA - Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have once again triggered volatility in global commodity markets. A conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has increased uncertainty in international financial markets and prompted investors to shift towards assets considered safe havens, such as gold and silver.

This latest development has sparked a surge in precious metal prices in global markets and increased volatility across various asset classes, ranging from energy to equities.

Gold prices globally have shown significant gains following the escalation of Middle East conflict. According to Global Times, in futures trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) on Sunday, 1 March 2026, gold contracts surged to $5,296.40 per ounce.

With an assumed exchange rate of Rp 16,800 per US dollar, this value equates to approximately Rp 88.98 million per ounce.

The price increase reflects growing investor interest in gold as a hedge asset when global uncertainty rises. Market analysts have noted that the conflict escalation has widened the risk premium in commodity trading.

Yang Yang, a market analyst, explained that geopolitical tensions are a primary factor driving precious metal prices. According to him, these conditions could trigger a surge in market openings early in the week as investors increase exposure to safer assets.

Gold and silver have long been recognised as safe-haven assets—investment instruments that tend to be sought by investors when uncertainty increases. When geopolitical risk rises, investors typically reduce their exposure to risky assets such as equities and shift towards commodities with more stable intrinsic value.

Yang said that global markets will likely display a risk-off response. “Safe-haven investments such as gold and silver have the potential to experience price surges at market opening,” he stated.
