Iran–US–Israel conflict erupts, Airlangga confirms energy stocks secure ahead of Eid al-Fitr
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - In the midst of escalating tensions between Iran, the United States (US) and Israel, the government ensures that national food and energy supplies remain secure ahead of Lebaran. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that, to date, the people’s needs are still under control. He confirmed this after attending the World Engineering Day (WED) event in Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/3/2026).
“First, for Lebaran we are safe in terms of food and then in terms of energy we are relatively safe as well. Of course we will monitor how long this war lasts, so we will see the response to the situation,” Airlangga said.
Escalation in the Middle East region is regarded as potentially disrupting world oil and gas distribution if it lasts a long time.
As a precautionary step, the government has prepared alternative supply sources.
Airlangga said, within the framework of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), Indonesia has obtained alternative energy sources, including LPG, from the United States.
“We are obtaining alternatives for energy including LPG from America. So we already have, Pertamina has made an MOU, so in this way other sources are being prepared in parallel in case supply from the Middle East is really disrupted due to the prolonged war,” he explained.
The step forms part of a mitigation strategy to safeguard national energy resilience should supply disruptions occur from the Middle East region.
The government ensures this supply scheme runs in parallel to avoid pressure on domestic needs.
With ongoing monitoring of the situation and readiness of alternative sources, the government emphasises that stability of food and energy supplies remains a priority, especially during the Ramadan period and ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
