Iran Threatens to Attack US Infrastructure: They Will Lose Oil and Gas
The conflict between the United States (US) and Iran is heating up. The latest development is Iran’s threat to attack US infrastructure. According to Al-Jazeera on Wednesday (8/4/2026), Iran’s combined military command spokesperson, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that his side would “do something to the United States’ infrastructure and that of its allies so that they will lose oil and gas in the region for years and be forced to withdraw from the area”. In a statement shared by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, Zolfaghari said Iran launched ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones at US and Israeli sites across the Middle East last night. He stated that the attacks targeted more than 30 locations in central Israeli cities. For context, the war in Iran began with US and Israeli strikes on 28 February 2026. According to Al-Jazeera, at least 2,076 people have been killed in Iran due to US-Israeli attacks up to today. Iran then retaliated by attacking Israel and US facilities in several Gulf countries. Thirteen US soldiers were killed and 200 others injured in Iran’s counterattack. Additionally, 26 people were killed in Israel and 7,183 injured. Casualties also occurred in several other countries. In addition to direct retaliation, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil trade route. This has triggered a surge in oil prices. Trump then asked other countries to help the US reopen the Strait of Hormuz, despite claiming to have destroyed Iran’s military power. That request was rejected by US allies. Trump then gave Iran a deadline to agree to a ceasefire deal or face massive attacks on power plants and other critical infrastructure. He demanded that Tehran relinquish nuclear weapons and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed due to the US attacks. Trump set the deadline for Tuesday (7/4) night, around 8:00 PM Eastern Time in the US. That deadline fell on Wednesday (8/4) early morning, around 3:30 AM Iran time.
