Iran Sets One-Month Deadline for US to End Strait of Hormuz Blockade
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran has set a one-month deadline for negotiations with the United States to reach an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, end the maritime blockade, and permanently halt the war in Iran and Lebanon, according to a report from Axios on Saturday (2/5). Iran submitted a proposal containing 14 revised points to the United States on Thursday (30/4). Two sources with knowledge of the document stated that Iran’s proposal sets a strict one-month timeline to reach an agreement, which includes maritime access, the end of the naval blockade, and a sustainable ceasefire. “If they behave badly, if they do evil things, but now we will see. It could happen, of course,” said US President Donald Trump on Saturday (2/5), when asked about the possibility of a new attack on Iran. The proposal projects that the next stage of talks will proceed only if an initial agreement has been reached, with negotiations focusing on the nuclear programme issue for an additional month ahead, according to those sources. “They have conveyed to me the concept of their deal. They will convey the exact statement right now,” said Trump. However, Trump later took a harsh tone on the social media platform Truth Social, accusing Iran of not having paid a sufficient price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the past 47 years. Meanwhile, in the same statement to the press, Trump described the blockade of Iran’s ports as a very friendly step and not contrary to his claim that hostilities have ended.
