Iran Responds to the Death of Indonesian TNI Soldier in Lebanon Due to Israeli Attack
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia has conveyed condolences over the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper serving in a United Nations (UN) mission, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). In its official statement, the Iranian Embassy expressed profound sorrow to the Indonesian government and people over the tragic incident.
“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Indonesia over the tragic death of an Indonesian peacekeeper serving under UNIFIL,” the statement read, as received by CNBC Indonesia on Monday (30/3/2026).
Iran also strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a heinous act. In its statement, Iran assessed the event as a direct consequence of Israel’s ongoing aggression, carried out with the involvement and full support of the United States (US).
“We firmly condemn this heinous act, which is a direct result of Israel’s ongoing aggression, carried out with the involvement and full support of the United States,” the statement continued.
Furthermore, Iran emphasised that attacks on peacekeeping personnel constitute a serious violation of international law. Such actions must not be allowed to go unpunished.
“Targeting peacekeepers is a serious violation of international law and must not be left without punishment,” it asserted.
To date, no official details have been released regarding the chronology of the incident. The party responsible for the incident has also not been announced.
It should be noted that, according to a TNI press release from the Centre for Strategic Communication of the Armed Forces, the fallen soldier was Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon. Meanwhile, Private First Class Rico Pramudia sustained serious injuries, while Private First Class Bayu Prakoso and Private First Class Arif Kurniawan suffered minor injuries.
“In handling the situation, two soldiers with minor injuries have received treatment at UNIFIL Level I Hospital. Meanwhile, one soldier with serious injuries has been evacuated by helicopter to St. George Hospital in Beirut for further medical treatment,” the TNI Centre for Strategic Communication statement read.
“The fallen soldier is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) and is in the process of administrative arrangements for repatriation to Indonesia, assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut,” it added.
The TNI has also taken steps to increase vigilance in accordance with the UNIFIL Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The incident occurred amid artillery exchanges.
“The TNI reaffirms its commitment to carrying out its duties as part of the world peace mission under the UN mandate in a professional and responsible manner, while prioritising the safety of its soldiers,” the statement added.
“The TNI is also continuously monitoring developments on the ground and preparing contingency measures in line with the dynamics in the area of operations in Lebanon,” the statement further read.
