Gulf states reported the latest missile and drone attacks on Sunday. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar reported fresh strikes from Iran targeting Kuwait International Airport, the diplomatic quarter in Riyadh, and Qatar. Citing AFP and Al Jazeera, Sunday (8 March 2026), a number of Gulf states said they had thwarted the Iranian assault. Meanwhile Iran vowed to continue attacks on neighbouring countries as the regional conflict enters its second week.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait all reported new strikes after a loud explosion was heard in Dubai and Manama, Bahrain a day earlier.

Attack on Kuwait

Kuwait authorities reported that a fuel tanker at Kuwait International Airport was targeted by a drone strike. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze at the airport’s fuel tank. Kuwait’s state news agency reported there were no serious injuries from the attack. The military described the drone strike as a direct targeting of critical infrastructure. Kuwait’s national oil company announced a crude production cut as a precautionary measure. Kuwait’s military also intercepted and destroyed several drone attacks and three ballistic missiles.

Furthermore, the Interior Ministry said two border security personnel were killed in the line of duty, though it did not specify whether their deaths were due to the Iranian attack.

In a separate statement, Kuwaiti authorities said several civil facilities sustained material damage from debris and shrapnel from the interception operation. The main building of the Social Security Public Agency also caught fire; firefighters were working to extinguish it.

Attack on Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Defence Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed 15 drones entering the kingdom’s airspace, including attempts to strike the diplomatic quarter in the capital, Riyadh. Additionally, Saudi authorities thwarted another attack by downing three more drones near Riyadh, hours after the authorities had prevented a drone strike on the Riyadh diplomatic area.

The attacks occurred despite Iran’s president apologising to the Gulf states for earlier strikes. He said Gulf states would no longer be targeted unless an attack was launched from their territory first.

Attack on UAE–Qatar

The UAE’s Defence Ministry said it had intercepted “threats from missiles and drones coming from Iran”. Bahrain’s Interior Ministry reported air-raid sirens were activated. Moreover, Qatar’s Defence Ministry said its country was targeted by ten ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles launched from Iran a day earlier. However, most of them were intercepted and caused no casualties.

A few hours later, Iran’s judiciary chief said the attacks would continue in Gulf locations that are “under enemy control”.

The UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a rarely televised address, said the Emirates is in a “period of war” and will emerge stronger from it. Meanwhile, Dubai authorities said a Pakistani national died on Saturday due to debris from the air interception.
