Iran Rejects US Peace Proposal, Citing Excessive Demands
Moscow (ANTARA) - Iran has rejected the peace proposal put forward by the United States (US) because it “would mean accepting excessive demands” from Washington, according to a Press TV report. Iran’s ISNA news agency previously reported that Tehran’s response to the US proposal focuses on ending the war and ensuring the security of shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump described Iran’s response to the US proposal for ending the conflict as highly unacceptable. According to Press TV, Iran’s response emphasises the need for the US to compensate Tehran for war damages. The Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday that Iran’s proposal for further negotiations with the US, which has been conveyed to Washington, includes the lifting of sanctions, full Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, and the unfreezing of Iran’s assets held abroad. Subsequent peace talks in Islamabad have not resulted in a long-term agreement. Although the two sides are no longer attacking each other, the US has since imposed a blockade on Iranian ports. Mediators are still working to facilitate a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
