Iran Prepares New Order for the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz Will Never Return to Normal
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy stated on Sunday (5/4/2026) that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its previous condition, especially for the United States (US) and Israel. This warning accompanies Tehran’s steps to implement new security arrangements in the Persian Gulf aimed at excluding parties deemed hostile.
“The Strait of Hormuz will never return to its original state, particularly for the United States and Israel,” the statement said in a post on the social media platform X.
The statement added that the IRGC Navy is in the final stages of operational preparations for what Iranian officials call a “new order for the Persian Gulf.”
The statement was issued a few days after Iran’s parliament approved at the committee level a draft law that would impose transit fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that the proposal includes obligations to pay passage fees in Iran’s national currency, the rial, a transit ban for the US and Israel, and restrictions on countries involved in unilateral sanctions against Iran.
The draft also includes provisions regarding Iran’s sovereignty over the strait, the authority of the armed forces, maritime security, environmental issues, and legal cooperation with Oman.
Tensions in the Middle East region continue to rise since the US and Israel launched joint attacks against Iran on 28 February, which reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including the then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, as a form of self-defence, which caused casualties and infrastructure damage as well as disrupting global markets and aviation.
