Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran will shortly submit a draft nuclear agreement to the United States. The draft is claimed to be ready within two to three days.

“The next step for me is to present a draft of a possible agreement to my counterparts in the US. I believe that within two or three days, it will be ready, and after final confirmation by my superiors, it will be delivered to Steve Witkoff,” Araghchi said in an interview published online, as reported by AFP on Friday (20/2/2026).

The statement came after US President Donald Trump threatened to take military action if Iran failed to reach a deal promptly. Trump said Iran had a maximum of 15 days to agree on a solution regarding its nuclear programme. In response, Araghchi denied the existence of any ultimatum.

“Well, I have to say that first of all, there is no ultimatum. We are simply talking to each other about how we can reach a quick deal. And a quick deal is something that both sides are interested in,” Araghchi said.

Previously, US President Donald Trump said that 10 to 15 days was sufficient time for him to decide whether to launch a strike against Iran. According to Trump, that timeframe represented the “maximum limit” he was giving Tehran to reach an agreement on its nuclear programme.

“We will get a deal, or it will be something that is not beneficial for them,” Trump told journalists aboard Air Force One on Thursday (19/2).

Trump emphasised that Iran must not continue to threaten regional stability and must reach a deal promptly. He reiterated that Iran must be prevented from possessing nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear programme is solely intended for civilian purposes.

Trump also warned that “bad things” would happen if a substantive nuclear deal were not reached.
