Iran Pounds Tel Aviv with Cluster Missiles as Iron Dome Fails to Hold
Iran launched a volley of cluster missiles capable of delivering numerous smaller bomblets in what authorities described as a strike on Tel Aviv, Israel, on Thursday, March 6, 2026. Anadolu reported that fragments from Iranian missiles fell in the heart of the city and around the capital’s vicinity, according to Channel 12. The Channel 12 broadcaster also reported large fires and substantial material damage as a result of the strike on Thursday. Eyewitnesses cited by Anadolu said fires and significant damage occurred at least at three locations inside and outside Tel Aviv. According to Pars Today citing Mehr News Agency, on Friday, March 6, 2026, parts of Ben Gurion Airport located near Tel Aviv were burning after being struck by Iranian ballistic missiles. Several Israeli media outlets have published photos and videos showing fires and damage. During Thursday night’s attack, sirens wailed across Tel Aviv and other areas in central Israel. Local residents were instructed to take shelter. Haaretz reported that the latest Iranian strike caused significant damage to several buildings in central Israel. The report described the Thursday night attack as very severe, with Israel’s air defence system and the United States failing to intercept the missiles as they approached. Another newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, reported that after the interception system failed to halt the Iranian missiles on Thursday night, a wave of fear and panic spread in the Tel Aviv area.
