Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country would be compelled to respond to any attack or invasion attempt by an adversary launched from neighbouring states. Iran said that its response to attacks does not mean it seeks to antagonise the country, but responds as needed.

This was stated by Pezeshkian in a statement broadcast by state television, reported by AFP, on Sunday (8 March 2026). The statement was addressed to Iran’s enemies attempting to attack Iran using any country.

‘If Iran’s enemies seek to use any country to attack or invade our land, we will be compelled to respond to the attack. Responding does not mean we have a dispute with that country or wish to harm its people – we will respond as needed,’ Pezeshkian said.

Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its forces could wage fiercely for six months at the current pace of battles against the United States and Israel.

IRGC spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini said Iran has so far used ‘first- and second-generation’ missiles, but will deploy ‘long-range missiles that are more advanced and rarely used’ in the coming days.

Earlier, on Saturday, the Iranian president apologised to neighbouring countries hosting US bases for strikes in their territory.

It is known that the US-Israel vs Iran conflict continues into a second week, increasing regional impact. Most recently, Saudi Arabia intercepted a wave of drones heading to targets including the diplomatic area in Riyadh. Kuwait also said attacks struck fuel tanks at its international airport.

The attack on Kuwait’s aviation fuel storage heightened concerns about energy supplies, with the country’s national oil company also announcing cuts in crude oil production due to threats to the Hormuz Strait, where a fifth of the world’s oil and gas transits.

Meanwhile, Iran accused the US and Israel of striking oil depots in the capital Tehran on Saturday, the first reported attack on the republic’s oil infrastructure amid a stock-market slump and rising crude prices.

The Israeli military said it had struck ‘a number of fuel storage facilities in Tehran’ used ‘to operate military infrastructure’.

The Israeli military also launched a fresh wave of attacks ‘across Tehran’ on Sunday, after carrying out precise strikes targeting a key commander in the Quds Force, the overseas operations wing of the IRGC, at a hotel in central Beirut popular with tourists.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the war against Iran ‘with all our might’. Israel also plans to eliminate the leadership of the country after joint US-Israel strikes killed the top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last week, triggering regional conflict.
