Moscow (ANTARA) - Iran plans to limit the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to no more than around 12 units per day, with costs potentially reaching up to 2 million US dollars (approximately Rp34.2 billion) per giant tanker, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. According to the report, shipowners from several countries are negotiating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The media also mentioned that a number of permitted ships must follow specially designated routes and obtain the necessary permits. On Wednesday night (8/4), US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached with Iran regarding a two-week ceasefire. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi then announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as a route for around 20 percent of the world’s oil supplies, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
