Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates: Update on Indonesian Citizens in the Middle East
Jakarta — A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Nasdem Faction, Amelia Anggraini, has provided an update on the situation of Indonesian citizens (WNI) currently in the Middle East region.
Amelia stated that Indonesian citizens must continue monitoring developments resulting from the Iran versus Israel-US conflict.
“We in Commission I are currently monitoring developments through official government channels, namely through the Foreign Ministry, and also reports from RI representatives in the field. And regarding Iran, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has reported that the ambassador has already coordinated with Indonesian citizen networks in various cities and is maintaining two-way communication,” Amelia told Kompas.com on Monday (2 March 2026).
Amelia reported that based on the latest update, 329 Indonesian citizens in Iran have been successfully contacted.
However, they are still being urged to increase their vigilance.
“Furthermore, in Qatar, the Indonesian Embassy in Doha has urged Indonesians to limit activities outside the house and remain in safe locations, and also to heed emergency alerts from local authorities,” said Amelia.
Subsequently, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Amelia stated that the Indonesian Embassies in Abu Dhabi and the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai have upgraded their preparedness to alert level three.
With this alert status established, Amelia said, Indonesians are urged to be disciplined in monitoring all official information and updating their registration data.
Furthermore, in Saudi Arabia, there are 58,867 Indonesian umrah pilgrims still present in the Holy Land.
Meanwhile, Amelia emphasised that the government cannot yet declare the Middle East situation safe.
She stated that the situation resulting from the Iran versus Israel and US conflict continues to create highly dynamic conditions.
This is because Iran is known to have launched missiles at countries hosting US military base locations.
She urged the nation to make the safety of Indonesian citizens an absolute priority.
