Iran has sent a strong signal regarding the future of the Strait of Hormuz. The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has asserted that this vital route will not return to its previous condition, especially for the United States and Israel, in line with Tehran’s plans to establish a new security order in the Persian Gulf.

In a statement issued, the IRGC stated that major changes are being prepared.

“The Strait of Hormuz will never return to its previous condition, particularly for the United States and Israel,” read the IRGC statement on Sunday (5/4) local time.

Iran has indicated that it is in the final stages of operational preparations to form a new order in the Persian Gulf region. This step is aimed at reorganising maritime security while sidelining parties deemed hostile.

This policy is reinforced by actions from the Iranian parliament, which is currently discussing a new draft law on the management of the Strait of Hormuz. One of the main points in the draft is the imposition of transit fees for vessels passing through, which must be paid using Iran’s national currency, the rial.

Additionally, the draft rules include a ban on passage for vessels associated with the United States and Israel, as well as restrictions on countries involved in unilateral sanctions against Iran.

The draft also contains provisions regarding Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, military authority in securing the area, maritime safety aspects, and legal cooperation with Oman.
