JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Iran’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, revealed that Iran would establish a temporary leadership council following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a US-Israeli military strike.

“Therefore, in accordance with the laws of our nation, a temporary leadership council will be established,” said Boroujerdi during a press conference at his official residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Boroujerdi stated that the leadership council would consist of three members. First, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. Second, the Head of Iran’s Judiciary, Ejei. Third, an expert from the Expert Council or the Guardian Council of the Constitution.

“Naturally, Iran is a strong, ancient nation that has existed in this region and cannot be shaken by developments such as these,” he said.

“Should there be a vacancy or any circumstance preventing a high-ranking state official from serving, they can be easily replaced by another official. This applies equally to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.

According to Boroujerdi, Iran possesses a well-organised and exceptional government.

“Unlike a certain regime in our region,” he stated pointedly.

Israel struck Tehran, Iran, on Saturday, 28 February 2026, in the morning. Following the attack, Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency.

An Israeli military spokesperson stated that the strike was a preliminary measure to eliminate threats to the country.

Meanwhile, the Agence France-Presse news agency reported two explosions heard in Tehran.

An Associated Press report indicated that the strike occurred near the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
