Iran Establishes New Maritime Control Zone in the Strait of Hormuz
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday (4/5/2026) announced a new maritime control zone in the Strait of Hormuz. In its official statement, the IRGC stated that it has established a new maritime control area in the strategic strait. According to the statement, the new “smart control” zone by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz is defined as follows: To the south: the line between Mount Mobarak in Iran and the southern region of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates; To the west: the line between the tip of Qeshm Island in Iran and Umm Al Quwain in the United Arab Emirates. On Sunday (3/5/2026), US President Donald Trump stated that the United States would help free ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday (4/5/2026). He signalled that his administration would break Iran’s blockade in the strategic waterway.
